A high-impact lighting installation using continuous LED runs and smart-ready control to create a clean, premium finish. This project shows how the right lighting system can completely change how a space looks and feels.

Lighting That Defines the Space
Most people walk into a gym and notice the equipment.
In this one, the first thing you notice is the lighting.
Clean lines running around the ceiling. A consistent glow reflecting off mirrors. A space that immediately feels sharper, more premium and more considered.
That wasn’t accidental.
This project used a combination of 230V LED strip lighting and Lutron-ready control to achieve a seamless, high-end result — while solving several practical challenges at the same time.
The Challenge
This wasn’t just about making the space look good — it needed to perform.
The brief required:
- Long, continuous LED runs across the space
- No dim patches or brightness inconsistencies
- No visible joins
- Clean, architectural lines
- A system robust enough for a busy London gym
On paper, it sounds simple.
But using standard 24V LED strip creates real limitations at this scale.

With low-voltage systems, you typically run into:
- Voltage drop (lights dim over distance)
- Multiple drivers across the install
- Breaks in the strip
- More wiring and connection points
- Increased long-term maintenance risk
In a mirrored environment, every flaw becomes visible.
Why We Chose 230V LED Strip
To deliver the result the client wanted, we used a 230V LED strip system.
A product similar to the Atom LED Strip Light SMD5050 RGB 220–240V IP67 Waterproof allowed us to achieve long, uninterrupted runs without the typical limitations of low-voltage systems.

Long Continuous Runs
With 230V LED strip, we can run significantly longer lengths (up to around 50m) without voltage drop.
This allowed us to:
- Create clean perimeter lighting
- Avoid breaking the strip into sections
- Maintain a consistent visual line throughout
Consistent Brightness
One of the biggest advantages:
With 24V systems:
- Start = bright
- End = noticeably dimmer
With 230V:
- Start to finish = consistent output
In a mirrored gym environment, this consistency is critical.
Cleaner Installation
Using a higher voltage system also simplifies the install:
- Fewer drivers required
- Reduced wiring complexity
- Fewer failure points
This results in:
- Faster installation
- More reliable performance
- Easier long-term maintenance
Smart Lighting with Lutron
Lighting like this isn’t just about switching on and off.
By designing the system to be Lutron-ready, the installation can be integrated into a smart lighting control system.
With Lutron Electronics, this allows for:
- Adjustable brightness throughout the day
- Different lighting moods for different sessions
- Integration with wider building systems
- Future-proofing for upgrades
Even if used as a standalone RGB system initially, it’s ready to be integrated into a full Lutron lighting control system — something we regularly install across high-end homes and commercial projects in and around London.

Where This Type of Lighting Works Best?
In a commercial space like this gym:
- It defines the space without adding clutter
- Enhances the sense of scale (especially with mirrors)
- Creates a premium environment clients notice immediately
In residential projects, the same principles apply:
- Ceiling coffers
- Stair lighting
- Media walls
- Kitchen features
It’s one of the most effective ways to elevate a space without overcomplicating the design.
Why Lighting Like This Matters?
Lighting is often overlooked.
But it’s one of the biggest factors in how a space is experienced.
The difference between:
A functional space
and
A space people remember
often comes down to details like this.
And when combined with systems like Lutron, lighting becomes more than just practical — it becomes part of the environment.
The Results
This project wasn’t just about installing LED strip lighting.
It was about choosing the right system for the space.
If a 24V system had been used:
- Visible joins would break the visual flow
- Brightness would be inconsistent
- The finish wouldn’t feel clean or premium
By using 230V LED strip:
- Long seamless runs
- Consistent brightness throughout
- A cleaner, more professional finish
A simple decision — but one that made a significant difference to the final result.

FAQs
Is 230V LED strip better than 24V LED strip?
For long runs, 230V LED strip can be a better option because it reduces voltage drop, keeps brightness more consistent, and usually needs fewer drivers than a 24V setup.
Why is 230V LED strip useful for gyms?
Gyms often need long, continuous lighting runs around ceilings, mirrors or feature areas. 230V LED strip helps create a clean, seamless glow without obvious dim patches or joins.
Can LED strip lighting be controlled with Lutron?
Yes. With the right setup, LED strip lighting can be integrated into a Lutron lighting control system, allowing dimming, scene control and smart automation.
Is LED strip lighting suitable for commercial spaces?
Yes. LED strip lighting is commonly used in gyms, restaurants, offices, retail spaces and high-end commercial interiors to create feature lighting and improve the atmosphere of the space.
Can this type of lighting be used in homes too?
Yes. The same approach can work well in high-end homes for ceiling coffers, stair lighting, media walls, kitchens, garden rooms and feature walls.
